A number of people have already mentioned this, but the Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo is just around the corner. As Stewart has already blogged, there are a number of great sessions this year and I’m looking forward to several of them. I’ll be giving a talk there as well - It’s essentially all in the abstract, but I’ll be speaking about various functional testing tools that exist for MySQL-based systems. Come to learn more about the random query generator, MTR, and…
2012-03-31 07:54:27 by patrick crewsI decided to take a look at Drizzle today and was encouraged by what I saw. Here’s my favorite part: There is no UNSIGNED (as per the standard). * There are no spatial data types GEOMETRY, POINT, LINESTRING & POLYGON (go use Postgres). * No YEAR field type. * There are no FULLTEXT indexes for the MyISAM storage engine (the only engine FULLTEXT was supported in). Look at either Lucene, Sphinx, or Solr. * No “dual” table. * The “LOCAL” keyword in “LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE” is…

Shopdock is an Ajax ecommerce theme where the user can quickly add/remove items to the cart with a single click. It is actually inspired by one of my sites, IconDock. The design process was quite challenging to make [...]Advertise here with BSA

2012-03-30 05:08:00After a bit of tweaking and improvements following feedback from various people the new changes to Jenkins and Gerrit are now live. The changes will also be rolled out onto Stackforge in the next 24 hours.I've had a lot of great feedback in the few hours the changes have been live, many love it and some have suggestions for improvements. This is great, we know the look could use a bit of refining here and there. What makes this truly awesome is that the styles are kept in an OpenStack project with…
2012-03-22 07:27:00 by Andrew HutchingsFreeBSD 9 seems to have some troubles with MySQL 5.5.20. A customer has moved from MySQL 5.0 on Linux to MySQL 5.5 on FreeBSD 9. He experienced a lot of periodic slow downs on the new, much stronger, system which he has not seen on the old Linux box. This slow downs were also shown in high CPU system time but we could not see any I/O going on. When we looked into MySQL we have seen many threads in Opening tables state in the MySQL processlist. The first idea was to increase table_open_cache to 2048…
2012-03-29 19:55:05The South by Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSW) holds a special place in the history and heart of WordPress. Though the conference has changed in the years since I first met Matt in the hallway in 2003 — before WordPress even had a name — it’s still arguably one of the most influential events in our [...]
2012-03-07 03:19:55 by Jane WellsWe have developed links to a range of existing feeds because we found getting up-to-date and relevant news on PHP and Web Development fairly fragmented.
We use an algorithm based around likes and tweets over time to try and rank popular and most recent articles first.
This should keep the news fresh and always changing. We would love to get your feedback on improvements or additions, just let us know here:
